With reference to previous correspondence under your reference 54058/4 and to this office letter numbered as above, and dated 22nd October, 1942, regarding the incidence of charge of expenditure incurred by the Consul General at Manila, in connection with the evacuation of civilians from Hong Kong, I am directed to forward herewith for your information, a copy of a letter and enclosures from the Command Paymaster, China Command, which has recently been brought to light. In view of the additional information given in this letter, I am to state that this Department' is prepared to accept forthwith a Receivable Order for pesos 167,876.50 or £20,783 8s. 9d.
